Archers in Action: News & Events ~ March 25, 2026

Dear Families,

Over spring break, I led a group of seniors and juniors to Greece. For our students, visiting the sites that they have studied multiple times during their time at Founders is like coming home. They recognize the statutes, can read the engravings, and can identify the history related to those places. Perhaps most significant is our students' ability to stand where those who participated in some of the most important events in Western Civilization, and authored some of its most important texts, stood. Their ideas influenced the American Founding, and their understanding of the good life represents the goal of our education. Words from Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics hang on our wall, “If, therefore, there is some end of our actions that we wish for on account of itself…clearly this would be the good, that is the best. And with a view to our life, then, is not the knowledge of the good of great weight, and would we not, like archers in possession of a target, better hit on what is needed?”

If you walked through our halls after school this week, you would have noticed that our seniors have begun presenting their capstone project, their thesis. It is the culmination of their education, because we ask them to engage deeply with the wisdom of our tradition, to build extended logical arguments, and to express those arguments through the full use of persuasive rhetoric. It is a reflection of the intellectual virtue they have developed and is considered the beginning of a student’s engagement in civil discourse because, at the end of the thesis process, students are required to present their ideas at length to an audience composed of faculty, students, family, and friends. They share the knowledge they have gained about the good over their years at Founders, and it is impressive.

As parents, it is difficult to see your student struggle, and sometimes you may wonder if the demands of this education are worth it, but I encourage you to attend one or more senior thesis presentations. They are open to the public, and they are a wonderful opportunity for you to see the fruit of a Founders education.

Community Work Day ~ Let’s Show Up, Archers

On Friday, April 24, our Founders families are invited to gather for an afternoon of meaningful work on the campus we are privileged to call our own.

Community Work Day is more than a to-do list. It is an opportunity to model stewardship for our children, to show them what it looks like to serve with purpose, to care for what has been entrusted to us, and to build something lasting together.

Bring your work gloves. Bring a few spare tools. Bring your children.

Snacks and drinks will be provided, and we will share pizza together at 6:00 PM.

If the sign-up appears full, please come anyway. There is always meaningful work to be done, and every willing hand makes a difference.

⭐Senior Thesis Presentation Schedule

⭐March: 5th Grade and House of Shakespeare Stocks the Lounge!

Each month, one or two grade/house level(s) “Stocks the Lounge”—filling our teacher lounge with grab-and-go snacks and drinks to keep our teachers fueled and feeling appreciated all year long. March is 5th grade and the House of Shakespeare's month to serve!

This is more than just treats. It’s a simple, meaningful way to say thank you to the teachers who pour their hearts into our children every single day.

Every $10 in donations = 1 Archer Hour, so your gift not only blesses our teachers but also counts toward your family’s volunteer hours.

Let’s surround our teachers with the same care and encouragement they show our kids—help us fill the lounge and remind them how much they mean to the Founders family! All donations can be dropped off in B1 or B3 offices during the month.

*New Attendance Reporting Procedures

Reporting an absence and other attendance related issues just got easier. You can now report early dismissal for athletics, early dismissals for student drivers, make alternate arrangements for student pickup, and report absences, all through our new online forms found here.

When the need arises, go to our school website at foundersleander.com. Navigate to one of three places - the Archers in Action page, Attendance page, or For Our Families tab to find a “Report an Absence” button. Simply click that button, find and complete the appropriate form for your situation and upload documents and correspondence directly to that form. Done! It’s that easy.

*Uniform Closet Donation Guidelines

The following school uniform items will be accepted as donations to our uniform closet:

Items with the school logo (including polos, jackets, spirit wear);
Plaid Wednesday formal skirts;
White Oxford shirts;
Girls jumpers;
Uniform ties and bows;
Belts

All items must be in good condition (clean, not stained or faded)

Volunteers must be approved each school year to be on campus.

Each school year, ResponsiveEd requires every volunteer to complete an online volunteer application and undergo a background check. Once you are approved, you must review the guidelines for Founders Archer Volunteers and sign a confidentiality agreement. Applications remain active for the current school year. A volunteer must reapply each school year regardless of their date of application. Please allow up to two weeks for processing of your application.
